The Origin of Wooden Flooring
The history of building houses with wood as a material can be traced back to the sturdy castles of Roman Britain, where both walls and floors were made of whole logs. In China, the earliest sturdy structures were the elevated houses of the Yi people, traditionally said to have been taught by Zhuge Liang during the Three Kingdoms period. These structures were built on sturdy frameworks above the ground to protect them from white ants and other insects. Therefore, both East and West have used solid wood flooring since ancient times, although there was no standardized production and use. The first to standardize production and use were the Nordic countries.
In China, the development of wooden flooring was relatively slow. It was not until the 1990s that solid wood flooring gradually gained popularity. In the late 1990s, solid wood flooring processing bases centered around Southwest China (Chengdu, Kunming) were formed, with the emergence of flooring made from Southwest birch, mountain wawa wood, and teak. Additionally, solid wood flooring processing bases centered around the Pearl River Delta formed, later leading to an inland sales market centered around Shanghai, which supported a central China wooden flooring brand.
Wooden flooring, with its beautiful natural appearance, light weight and strength, easy processing, good thermal insulation, moisture regulation, resistance to condensation, durability, shock absorption, non-pollution, and renewability, has become the preferred flooring material in home decoration.
